How to replace the battery in your Mazda key fob

Supplies You Will Need

  • A replacement CR2025 battery (older models) or CR2032 battery (newer models)
  • Your Mazda key fob
  • A small flathead screwdriver or plastic pry-tool

How to Open Your Mazda Key Fob

No matter what Mazda model you drive, learning how to change the battery in a Mazda key fob starts with opening the fob casing to reveal the battery. Follow these steps:

  1. Press the auxiliary key button on the back of your key fob. This will release the emergency key, which you can now pull out from the bottom of the fob.
  2. With the emergency key removed, you’ll see a slot on either side of the fob casing.
  3. Gently pry open the two halves of the casing with the tape-wrapped flathead screwdriver.
  4. Set aside the fob casing where you won’t lose it.

How to Change the Battery in a Mazda Key Fob

  1. Remove the battery cap, and set it aside with the key fob casing.
